The Portadown Road in Armagh has fully reopened to traffic after a serious road traffic collision prompted emergency services to attend and caused significant disruption for drivers on Friday morning.
Police said the collision happened at around 8.20am on Friday, August 21, 2026. The Air Ambulance was called to the scene, while the Killuney Roundabout was closed as emergency crews responded.
Emergency response and road closures
The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service received a 999 call at 8.19am reporting a road traffic collision in the Portadown Road area of Armagh.
NIAS sent two emergency ambulances, a rapid response paramedic and the Charity Air Ambulance, which had a Helicopter Emergency Medical Service team on board.
The incident was serious enough to trigger a number of road closures and traffic diversions during the morning. The original road closure was reported at Mullinure Lane, while access around the Killuney Roundabout was also affected.
Where drivers were diverted
Drivers faced diversions at several points around Armagh while the road and roundabout were closed. These included:
- College Hill and Mall East at the Courthouse;
- Victoria Road for traffic travelling towards Portadown; and
- Stonebridge Roundabout for traffic travelling towards Armagh.
