Police are seeking witnesses and camera footage after a hooded gunman held an employee at gunpoint during an armed robbery at a filling station bureau de change in the Monaghan Road area of Middletown.

The incident happened at around 1pm on Saturday, August 22, 2026. Police said the suspect was carrying a small handgun and demanded money before leaving the premises with a quantity of cash.

The employee was not physically injured, but was described as obviously shaken following the raid. Officers attended after receiving a report that an armed robbery was ongoing and spoke to the member of staff.

Police seek footage of suspect and getaway car

According to police, the man entered the premises shortly before the robbery with his hood up and his face covered. He then fled in a blue Volkswagen Passat.

Detective Inspector Griffin said enquiries remain ongoing. Police have not said whether anyone has been arrested.

Detectives are particularly interested in dash-cam recordings and other camera footage that could help establish the suspect’s movements before or after the robbery. The appeal is directed at anyone who saw anything suspicious in the Monaghan Road area or was travelling through it around the time of the incident.
