A worker was left shaken after being threatened during an armed robbery at a filling station bureau de change in the Monaghan Road area of Middletown, Armagh.

Police received a report at around 1pm on Saturday, 22 August, that the robbery was under way. Officers attended the premises and spoke with the employee, who was unharmed but visibly affected by what had happened.

What police say happened

Police said the suspect entered the premises shortly beforehand with his hood up and his face covered. He was carrying what officers believe was a small handgun and demanded money from the employee.

“It was reported that a man with a hood up and his face covered had entered the premises shortly beforehand, armed with what we believe to have been a small handgun.”

The man took a quantity of cash before leaving the area in a blue Volkswagen Passat. No further details about the suspect were provided in the appeal.

The incident is being treated as an armed robbery, and police enquiries are continuing. The appeal will be relevant to anyone who was travelling through Middletown or the Monaghan Road area around the time the report was made, particularly motorists who may have recorded the vehicle or other activity.

Police appeal for footage

Detective Inspector Griffin said officers are seeking information that could help identify the person responsible. Police are particularly interested in dash-cam footage and other recordings from the area around the time of the robbery.
