An Israeli news crew was attacked in Belfast city centre over the weekend while filming a documentary about antisemitism in Europe, leaving a cameraman with a cut to his head.
The incident happened in the Cathedral Quarter as i24News’ Hebrew channel was recording interviews. Footage supplied by the station shows a man shouting at crew members Yonatan Raveh and Nadav Abas as they worked.
What happened during the filming
The individual continued approaching the team while crew members and other people nearby tried to calm the situation. According to an i24News spokesperson, the man attempted to take the crew’s camera equipment and disrupted filming with obscene gestures directed at the camera.
“disrupted the shoot by making obscene gestures at the camera, forcing filming to a halt.”
Video footage shows doormen from surrounding bars attempting to block the man from reaching the crew. The footage then shows a pint glass being thrown at videographer Mr Abas, causing a cut to his head.
Medical treatment and police contact
The news station said both reporters required no further medical treatment after the incident and later returned to Israel.
The PSNI was contacted for comment. No police response was included in the supplied report.
The incident took place in Belfast rather than Armagh, and no impact on Armagh residents or services was reported. It is included here as a Northern Ireland public-safety story relevant to readers seeking regional news.
