Tributes have been paid to Belfast businessman Arthur McAnerney, owner of City Picnic on Castle Street, following his death on Wednesday, August 12, 2026 — his 50th birthday.
Mr McAnerney was remembered by his family, friends and colleagues as a much-loved husband and father of seven. A family notice described him as the “beloved husband and best friend” of Maria and the “adored dad” of Oran, Aoibheann, Faye, Vicky, Lewis, Sebastian and Sophia.
Tributes from City Picnic
City Picnic announced his death in a tribute shared on Facebook. The company said Mr McAnerney was also a cherished son, brother, family member and friend, adding that he would be deeply missed by everyone who knew him.
“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Arthur McAnerney, owner of City Picnic, on August 12 2026.”
The family notice said Mr McAnerney died peacefully. It also named his mother Catherine and siblings Nicola, Patrick, Clodagh, Paula and Aidan. His father, Vincent, was noted as having predeceased him.
Funeral arrangements
A funeral notice confirmed that Mass for Mr McAnerney will take place at St Michael’s Church in Carlingford on Saturday at 11.30am.
Hospitality Ulster said it was “deeply shocked and saddened” by his death and described him as a true gentleman who would be fondly remembered by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
“Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with his family, friends, and colleagues at this incredibly difficult time. Rest in peace, Arthur.”
