Tributes have been paid to Trevor Henderson, the Portadown businessman who ran The Port chip shop with his wife Vivien for more than 30 years. Mr Henderson died peacefully on August 23, 2026, after a short illness, surrounded by his family.
The Port said he had built a strong relationship with customers during his decades behind the counter, with many becoming friends. His death has prompted messages from family, former staff, customers and another local takeaway.
A familiar face at The Port
Announcing his death, The Port described Mr Henderson as someone who loved the business and, above all, the people who came through its doors. The statement said he was happiest chatting with customers he had come to know over the years.
Mr Henderson was also remembered for his enthusiasm for football. He supported Portadown and was a lifelong Tottenham Hotspur fan, with sport regularly forming part of conversations at the chip shop.
A funeral notice described him as the beloved husband of Vivien, a dearly loved father of Colleen and Dillon, and a cherished grandfather to Jayce and Diana. He was also remembered as a much-loved brother, brother-in-law and uncle.
Tributes from family, staff and the community
Mr Henderson’s family thanked The Port’s staff for their hard work and loyalty over the years, saying their contribution had meant a great deal to him. They said he would be very deeply missed.
A former employee also paid tribute online, describing Mr Henderson as an exceptional employer and recalling the laughter and stories shared in the chip shop. The message offered condolences to Vivien, Colleen and Dillon.
Danny’s Chippy and Kebab, another Portadown chip shop, said it was heartbroken by the news and remembered Mr Henderson as a gentleman who had provided lovely food to many people. The business said he had been a much-loved part of the community.
Funeral arrangements
Mr Henderson’s wake and funeral are strictly private. The family is welcoming friends at The Old Meeting House on Wednesday from 6pm to 9pm.
