Older residents across the Armagh area are being encouraged to take part in a month-long programme of activities designed to support social connections, wellbeing and active ageing.

The Positive Ageing Month programme is continuing across the ABC Borough during October. It includes events in Armagh, Portadown, Lurgan, Banbridge and Dromore, alongside activities in local villages and rural centres.

Tea dance held in Lurgan

A recent tea dance took place at the Brownlow Hub in Lurgan, providing one of the programme’s regular opportunities for people to meet others and enjoy an afternoon of entertainment.

The council says the wider programme is intended to help people make new connections, get active and discover new hobbies. Activities cover sports and exercise, arts, entertainment, health, cooking and crafts, as well as a series of tea dances.

Information and support for older people

Positive Ageing Month also includes events focused on health, safety and the support services available to older people in the community. The programme is aimed at people aged over 50 and presents a range of ways to take part, whether through physical activity, creative sessions, social events or practical information.

Residents can find the full programme in the ABC Seniors Newsletter. The newsletter can be requested by contacting Stephanie Rock, the ABC Borough’s Age Friendly Officer, on 07825 010630 or by email. Programme details are also available through the Positive Ageing Month webpage on the Armagh Banbridge Craigavon Borough Council website.

The council’s announcement was published on October 19, 2026, as the borough-wide programme continued through the month.
