The Newtownhamilton Road on the outskirts of Armagh city remains closed in both directions after a serious four-car crash in which four children were among those involved.
Emergency services were called to the collision shortly after 9am on 2 September 2026. The response included three fire appliances, five ambulances, two hazardous area response teams, an emergency planning officer, an ambulance doctor and the Air Ambulance with a HEMS crew.
The Belfast Telegraph reported that seven people were involved in the crash, including four children. Two other elderly passengers were also understood to have been cut free from one of the vehicles.
Patients taken to hospitals
Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene, one patient was taken by ambulance to Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast. A second patient was airlifted to the same hospital by Air Ambulance, while four patients were taken by ambulance to Craigavon Area Hospital.
The published hospital-transfer figures account for six patients, despite the report stating that seven people were taken to hospital. The source material does not explain the difference.
Road remains closed
Police said the Newtownhamilton Road, Armagh, was closed because of the serious collision, with local diversions in place. Motorists were advised to seek an alternative route.
