Almost 100 tourism and hospitality stakeholders gathered at Navan Centre & Fort as Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council marked the 10th anniversary of its annual tourism conference.
The conference took place on October 14, 2026, under the theme ‘Our People, Places and Stories’. It brought together people working across the borough’s tourism and hospitality sector to hear from industry experts, exchange ideas and consider opportunities for the future.
Focus on sustainable tourism and heritage
Discussions centred on sustainable tourism growth, destination development and heritage-led visitor experiences. The event also highlighted the role of local people, places and stories in presenting the borough to visitors.
Opening the conference, Lord Mayor of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon, Councillor Mary O’Dowd, said tourism was important to the local economy and to the vitality of communities across the borough.
“Tourism plays a vital role in our local economy and contributes greatly to the vibrancy of our city, towns, villages and rural communities. This conference is an important opportunity for the sector to come together, share ideas and learn from one another. As we celebrate the 10th year of this event, it is fitting that we reflect on the people, places and stories that make our borough such a special destination for visitors from near and far.”
Speakers and tourism opportunities
Delegates heard presentations showcasing tourism initiatives and possible opportunities for further growth. Speakers included Caitríona O’Connor from Royal Sites of Ireland, Adrienne Moffett of Gilford Castle Estate and Chris Mallon from Armagh Road Bowling Experience.
Tourism Ireland also provided an update on trade opportunities and emerging trends in the tourism industry. The event was compered by BBC NI broadcaster Jo Scott.
The council said the annual conference continues to offer a platform for networking and collaboration, while showcasing innovation and best practice within tourism and hospitality.
For businesses and organisations involved in tourism across Armagh and the wider borough, the conference provided an opportunity to share experience and consider how local attractions, heritage and hospitality can contribute to future visitor growth.
Partnership approach to visitor experiences
ABC Council said it continues to invest in and support tourism development. The conference was presented as part of the council’s partnership approach with businesses and other stakeholders, with the aim of creating memorable visitor experiences and strengthening the borough’s position as a destination.
