Navan Centre & Fort has been placed firmly on the itinerary for future group outings after organisers, tour planners and tourism partners gathered at the attraction for a dedicated open day.

The event, hosted by the Tourism Team at Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council, was designed to showcase the heritage attraction and the wider experiences available across the borough. It welcomed representatives from community groups, clubs, associations, active retirement groups, special interest groups and coach tour operators.

The council said the open day provided both inspiration and practical information for those planning future outings. The Deputy Lord Mayor, Alderman Lavelle McIlrath, welcomed attendees and encouraged group organisers to consider Navan Centre & Fort when arranging visits.

“Navan Centre & Fort is a fantastic attraction to have right here in our borough. It offers visitors a unique opportunity to step back in time and experience the stories, heritage and traditions that have shaped this place for centuries.”

She said the attraction could appeal to groups interested in history, culture, food, shopping or a general day out, while also highlighting the range of experiences available across Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon.

What group visitors can experience

Navan Centre & Fort is described by the council as one of the borough’s flagship tourism attractions. It combines history, myth and archaeology, with group visits able to include interactive exhibitions, storytelling, guided tours and exploration of the surrounding landscape.

The attraction is just outside Armagh City and brings to life the stories of Emain Macha, described in the council’s account as the legendary seat of the Kings of Ulster. Its immersive experiences connect visitors with Ireland’s heritage, myths and traditions, making it suitable for coach tours, special-interest groups and day-trip visitors.

The open-day attendees also heard about other tourism opportunities across the borough. These include guided walking tours, museums and galleries, food and drink experiences, shopping, gardens, genealogy, arts and culture, and seasonal events.

Why group tourism matters locally

The council said group tourism plays an important role in supporting the local economy. It also helps sustain jobs and drive growth across the destination, linking visits to Navan Centre & Fort with the wider tourism offer in the borough.

The event was attended by Ghilian Campbell, Destination Sales Officer; Alderman Lavelle McIlrath, Deputy Lord Mayor; Joanne McElmeel, Tourism Operations Manager; and Matthew Avenell, Marketing Officer.

Anyone interested in arranging a group visit or learning more about Navan Centre & Fort is advised to contact the council’s Tourism Team. The council’s announcement is dated October 16, 2026, and refers to the open day as having taken place recently.
