Two men have been arrested after a police pursuit that began in Markethill and involved a vehicle travelling at high speed towards the Newry border.
Police officers carrying out an anti-burglary operation began pursuing a Volkswagen Golf on Gosford Road, Markethill, on Thursday afternoon. The vehicle then travelled towards the border at high speed.
Arrests following pursuit
The suspects were apprehended with assistance from the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Air Support Unit, Interceptors Team and local police officers. An Garda Siochana also supported the operation by carrying out border checkpoints intended to prevent the suspects from leaving the jurisdiction.
A man in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of burglary and a number of driving offences. A second man, in his 30s, was arrested on suspicion of burglary. Both men remained in police custody at the time of the report.
Police appeal for information
A PSNI spokesperson said enquiries are continuing. Anyone with information that could assist the investigation is asked to contact police via 101 and quote reference number 931 of 29/08/26.
