A 21-year-old man has been arrested after a high-speed police pursuit involving a stolen motorcycle in Lurgan, County Armagh.

The incident happened during the early hours of 21 October 2026. Police said the rider travelled along the wrong side of the road, reached speeds of more than 90mph and narrowly avoided a collision with another road user.

Motorcycle spotted in Portadown Road area

According to the Police Service of Northern Ireland, officers in the Portadown Road area spotted a grey Husqvarna motorcycle without a vehicle registration. Officers followed it and later found it parked on the Old Portadown Road.

Police said the driver made off after seeing officers. Although police signalled for him to stop, the rider accelerated in an attempt to evade them and performed two wheelies before travelling at more than 90mph.

The pursuit continued when the rider failed to give way at a junction and narrowly avoided a collision. Police said he then travelled at more than 80mph, drove the wrong way around a roundabout and entered Brownlow Road on the wrong side of the road.

Foot pursuit ended in Ardowen

The motorcycle was then driven onto a footpath and grass verge before being abandoned. The driver ran away, prompting officers to begin a foot pursuit through a river and grass area.

Police said the man was apprehended in the Ardowen area. He resisted officers before being arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, aggravated vehicle taking in which a vehicle is driven dangerously, failing to stop for police, resisting police and theft of a vehicle.

The man remained in police custody at the time of the report. Police also seized the motorcycle.
