A teenage girl was taken for medical treatment after an alleged assault involving a group of youths near the Cathedral Road recreation centre in Armagh.
The incident happened at around 5pm on August 11, in the vicinity of the Cathedral Road recreation centre. Police are now appealing for information and witnesses as enquiries continue into what happened.
What police say happened
The PSNI said officers on patrol were flagged down by members of the public reporting an ongoing fight involving youths in a nearby park. When officers arrived, they spoke to a number of youths who were present, but the altercation was no longer taking place.
A police spokesperson said medical attention was advised for a teenage girl who had sustained injuries during the altercation. The injuries were not believed to be serious at that time, according to police.
The PSNI said its enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances. A Youth Diversion Officer has also been informed.
Account given by the injured girl’s mother
The injured girl’s mother alleged that her daughter had been “grabbed by her hair” and had her “head slammed against a wall” during the incident.
She claimed that between six and seven girls, aged roughly 16 to 17, were responsible for instigating the alleged assault. The source report said the group appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, although this is an allegation and has not been established by police.
It is understood that the injured teenager attended hospital for the injuries she received.
