Football fans, first-time kickers and anyone looking for a bit of friendly competition will have the chance to test their nerve from 12 yards when a free penalty shootout event comes to The Mall in Armagh.
The first Armagh I Penalty Shootout Competition will take place on Friday, August 14, from 12pm to 3pm at the courthouse end of The Mall. The event is open to people of all ages and abilities, with no age limit or other restrictions on taking part.
Free event open to everyone
Organisers say participants do not need to be experienced footballers. The competition is intended to give everyone an opportunity to step up to the penalty spot, whether they regularly find the top corner or have never kicked a ball before.
There is no charge to enter. People can express their interest in attending by completing an online form, while registration will also be available at The Mall on the day.
The event is designed around the excitement of a penalty shootout, with participants choosing their corner and competing to become the first Armagh I penalty shootout champion. Organisers are expecting plenty of friendly rivalry as people take their turn in front of the target.
Prizes for junior and adult scorers
Prizes will be available for the top-scoring juniors, defined as participants up to 16 years old, as well as for adults aged over 16. The prizes have been supplied by a group of Armagh businesses, attractions and community organisations.
