Armagh Observatory will open its doors to visitors during European Heritage Open Day 2026, offering a rare opportunity to explore the historic Georgian building and learn how the institution has endured for more than two centuries.
Tours will take place on 12 and 13 September, with bookable time slots available between 12 noon and 4.30pm. Museum staff will welcome visitors inside the observatory, explain its history and show selected treasures from the collection.
Stories spanning 236 years
Founded in 1790, Armagh Observatory has survived and developed as a scientific institution, family home and museum. The tour will trace its story through periods including the 1798 Rising, the Moon Landing and the New Millennium, highlighting the challenges and triumphs associated with each era.
