A teenage girl has received medical treatment after an alleged assault in the Cathedral Road area of Armagh, in an incident that police said involved youths. The PSNI is investigating and has appealed to anyone who witnessed what happened or has information that could help officers.
The girl was reportedly targeted on Cathedral Road on Wednesday evening. Her mother, speaking to Armagh I, alleged that her daughter was grabbed by her hair and had her head slammed against a wall. She said she believed a group of girls in their late teens was responsible.
What police said happened
The PSNI said officers on patrol were flagged down by members of the public about an ongoing fight involving youths in a nearby park. Officers attended and spoke to several youths who were present, but police said an altercation was no longer taking place when they arrived.
Medical attention was advised for a teenage girl who had sustained injuries as a result of the altercation. Police said the injuries were not believed to be serious at the time of their statement.
Enquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances of the incident, and the PSNI said its youth diversion officer had been informed.
