A candlelit concert exploring romance through music will be held at Armagh’s Archbishop’s Palace this November, bringing together Georgian elegance, classical favourites and contemporary songs.
From Courtship to Courting: A Georgian Love Story is scheduled for Sunday 29 November 2026 from 4.15pm to 5.30pm. The event will take place inside the Archbishop’s Palace, within the atmospheric surroundings of the Archbishop’s Palace Demesne.
Music from Bach to Beyoncé
Presented and curated by the Arco String Quartet, the programme will explore different stages of love, including attraction, flirtation, longing, heartbreak and devotion. The quartet will perform well-known works by Bach, Elgar, Mozart and Purcell alongside contemporary songs associated with artists including Taylor Swift and Beyoncé.
Organisers describe the event as an evening spanning centuries, genres and musical styles, using music to connect the world of Georgian romance with modern expressions of love. The performance is intended to appeal to classical music listeners, fans of contemporary songs and anyone seeking an evening in an unusual historic setting.
The Arco String Quartet is described as a professional ensemble with a classical foundation and an interest in contemporary music and creative collaboration. Its members have performed internationally with ensembles including the Ulster Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, RTÉ Concert Orchestra and Irish Chamber Orchestra, as well as appearing in Fever Candlelight Concerts.
Tickets, refreshments and access arrangements
Tickets cost £28, plus a £1 booking fee. Admission includes a glass of bubbles and light nibbles, while non-alcoholic drinks will also be available. Refreshments are due to be served from 4pm before the concert begins.
